College and Career Advisory

The DCIS College and Career Advisory Office offers students a variety of resources designed to help them find a "good match" between themselves and colleges. The College and Career Advisory Program has a student-centered approach which sets both the student's and school's responsibilities throughout the application process, empowering them to develop skills that will later help them succeed in their young adult lives. Students are responsible for registering for standardized testing, preparing and submitting applications, and meeting deadlines. The counselor guides each student in choosing the best college for him or her based on the students' complete profile (test scores, strength of curriculum, letters of recommendation, essays, and extra-curricular activities).

The purpose of College and Career Advisory Office at DCIS is to assist throughout, the sometimes stressful, college application process by:

  • Informing
  • Helping Reduce Anxiety
  • Dispelling Myths
  • Showing Students What to Work on Today

The College Application Process at DCIS

The college application process at DelCampo International School begins early in the student's ninth grade year.

Participation in clubs, sports, the arts, and social service organizations is encouraged as students begin to develop personal profiles. Standardized test preparation begins in the tenth and eleventh grade years with the College Prep course and PSAT (Preparation for Standardized Assessment Test). This test and preparation course gives students a realistic view of what they will experience when taking the actual SAT. Students are advised to take the first SAT test in May of their junior year.

Workshops on the "Admission Essay" are also given during junior and senior year. Students follow an established timeline that serves as an organizational tool throughout the process.

As students progress into their senior year they begin to accumulate all the documentation required for application.

College Visits

College representatives visits are one of the most important and useful parts of a student's college search. The primary purpose of college visits is to give prospective applicants a personalized, first-hand look at the campus.

During a meet and greet meetings with college representatives on our campus, students observe and experience many aspects of the college culture that they would not be able to experience from a distance or by reading admissions literature: the atmosphere of each  campus, the aesthetic style of the grounds, the condition and quality of buildings and facilities, the surrounding areas, the people (students, faculty, and local folks), and even the climate.
